While similar to dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis has more severe symptoms. The condition needs to be treated with a shampoo that relieves symptoms like scalp flakes and redness, and tackles the root cause to stop it from coming back

SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS VS DANDRUFF

Much like dandruff, the cause of seborrheic dermatitis is thought to be a sensitivity to a  naturally occurring microbe species, Malassezia globosa.

Both dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis affect the scalp and share common symptoms.

These include:

  • flakes
  • itching
  • irritation
  • redness

Seborrheic dermatitis shares certain symptoms with dandruff but is characterized by a number of more severe symptoms.

SYMPTOMS OF SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

You may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  1. severe flakes adhered to the scalp (also called “scaling”)
  2. yellowish flake scales that can be oily
  3. inflamed areas on the scalp
  4. symptoms occurring on  other body  areas, like the face, chest, or back

OTHER CAUSES OF SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

While sensitivity to Malassezia is the primary cause of seborrheic dermatitis, a combination of factors  could make the condition worse.

These include:

  • stress
  • genetics
  • cold, dry weather
  • reaction to certain medicines
  • side effect of some medical conditions

HOW TO TREAT SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

Luckily, seborrheic dermatitis is completely treatable and is not contagious.

It mainly affects the scalp, which means it’s easily treated with the correct antidandruff shampoo.

To effectively treat severe dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, nothing’s more effective than our Clinical Strength Shampoo.

Formulated with 1% selenium sulfide, it provides prescription strength flake relief,1 without the need for a prescription.

Using it regularly lets you get relief from the symptoms, and helps prevent future flare-ups, while leaving your hair soft & manageable.

1 vs. prescription dandruff shampoo with 2% Ketoconazole
